I recently discovered a program called Apophysis. [WARNING: APOPHYSIS IS VERY ADDICTIVE!] Apophysis is a free program, downloadable here. What it does, is design and render fractal flames. I am not all that technical, but from what I understand, it uses mathematical algorithms (you insert the number values) and the computer creates some very cool images. There are some amazing wizards at this out there. I am not one of them. I basically just enter numbers, move things around, and play the guessing game. When I get something I like, I render it out, and pull it into Photoshop…where I do my magic.
My fractals seem to be popular because of the unusualness of them. I like to make them smooth and flowing, kind of like an oil painting. That is all done in Photoshop.
